THE BRIEF

Explore the relationship between beauty, identity and the gaze, using portraiture to challenge conventional representations of the human face and female form.

MY APPROACH

Inspired by psychological portraiture and structured compositions, I fragmented and concealed facial features within defined, box-like forms. This created a tension between revealing and hiding the subject, encouraging the viewer to question their own role in observing and interpreting identity.

WHAT I SOLVED

The project challenged traditional ideas of beauty by making the viewer an active participant in the act of looking, exploring themes of voyeurism, intimacy and objectification.

WHAT OTHERS CAN TAKE FROM IT

The project demonstrates how visual experimentation can communicate complex cultural and psychological ideas, using composition and the viewer’s perspective to create a more engaging and thought-provoking experience.
